Marilyn Monroe's Personally Owned Night Slip
Marilyn Monroe's Personally Owned Night Slip Marilyn Monroe wore this black night slip made by an unknown designer. Monroe would later give the slip along with an assortment of other personal belongings to her close friend, confidante and well known teenage reporter, Lynn Pupello in 1961. Monroe's slip was black with a glamours lace design. The slip was purchased around the 1950's during the height of Marilyn Monroe's career. Designer/Brand: Unknown. Looks as if it was custom made for Marilyn, likely by Saks Fifth Avenue. Year: Late-1950's.Type: Ladies Ink Black Lace Slip.Materials: Nylon and satin laced slip.Size: 6.Design: Black Slip with lace and satin straps. Authenticity:According to Marilyn Monroe: Private and Confidential By Michelle Morgan, Lynn Pupello was given a nightgown/slip that Marilyn Monroe didn't want anymore as a gift when she got married. The slip is also accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity/Sworn Affidavit signed by Lynn Pupello attesting to the authenticity of the slip. The slip is also comes with a horde of photographs of Monroe wearing similar pieces.CHAIN OF CUSTODY:Circa 1950-1961- In the possession of Marilyn Monroe. 1961- 1998- In the Lynn Pupello collection of items owned by her celebrity friends.1998-2018- In the private collection of a Marilyn Monroe fan.2018 to Present- Donated to the Not for Profit organization. The black laced slip is made of a good quality nylon but unfortunately has no marker's label or any labels at all which could mean it was made personally for Marilyn Monroe. The slip has satin adjustable straps. This slip was likely custom made by a seamstress at Saks Fifth Avenue. It is unlikely that Pupello would have ever worn this, being a 16 year old girl. It would retain the touch that Marilyn Monroe left on. Unfortunately, the slip has tarnished in some areas but overall is just as glamorous as it was when Monroe owned it. Imagine the night time stories that this slip could tell. The slip has been hemmed about 1.2 inch by hand and there are mysterious white marks on the slip near the bottom which are yet to be determined.History. In 1961, Lynn Pupello met Marilyn Monroe after her editor that Monroe was staying at Redington Beach with her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio. It is believed that time Marilyn Monroe, the epitome of beauty was going through deep depression. Lynn Pupello who was only around 16 at the time knew that it was wrong to harrass Marilyn for an interview at that time as she could tell Monroe was in no mood for one. Instead Lynn Pupello stayed and spent that afternoon together, talking to her as a friend and soon formed a close friendship. After Monroe left Florida Pupello was shocked to find that Marilyn wanted to fly her to New York for a visit. During Lynn Pupello's stay in New York, Marilyn Monroe was still packing up her Manhattan apartment and decided to give Pupello an assortment of clothing/accessories and personal belongings which she didn't intent to take back to her Hollywood home. Lynn Pupello soon amassed a large collection of celebrity memorabilia from her celebrity friends from Monroe to Presley. The items in her collection were cherished for decades until she auctioned a large number of her collection to raise money for various charities like "Help For American Indians". Here is an excerpt where Pupello is talking about Monroe: Lynn Pupello, a film scholar and one-time reporter who is writing a screenplay and a biography of Monroe, says the actress' star is still on the rise. Thirty major books have been written about her, said Pupello, and Monroe's grave always is decked with flowers and love notes from fans. "She's very popular in a gigantic way, " said Pupello, who met Monroe while covering celebrities for the St. Petersburg Times. "When I travel, I sec pictures of Marilyn all over the world, from palaces in Monte Carlo to the most modest houses in poor countries. She's popular throughout all levels of society, all cultures, all countries. "There's a humanity and warmth that comes out of her eyes. There are few human beings who have that power over people."
