Princess Diana Owned & Worn Dress
Handmade black velvet dress with polka dots labeled Gina Fratini. The Princess has been seen at least twice in the same dress, in 1981 with Prince Andrew and on February 8, 1984 with Prince Charles at the Ritz London.and a third occasion has now been identified which we will address later. As the designer has passed away, a former employee of Gina Fratini's Team was contacted for more information. The dress is identical and the same. If you enlarge the pictures, you can see that the dots along the neckline on the dress end identically to the one worn by the Princess, with a noticeable gap without dots on one side along neckline and shoulder. He also recalled that Gina Fratini was a front runner to design her wedding dress until the Princess discovered the Emanuels and worked very closely with the princess at the time and made many special dresses for her. The size of the dress is consistent with those of the Princess. The dress was also shown to an experienced dress maker and she said that it would be virtually impossible to set the polka dots identically on both dresses. The Kensington Palace Museum was contacted about this dress and responded that they would like to have it for their collection. The gallery, when cataloguing this dress became aware of a third time it was worn by Princess Diana So, The Princess wore the dress in public not twice - but three times. The third time was on 1985-02-11 when Princess Diana and Prince Charles visited Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher at 10 Downing Street at a Reception in honour of the Commonwealth Youth Exchange Council. This time she wore a bright red coat over her dress.
