The first regulations of the community of Vienna were established in 1862. In 1869, the Jews of Austria, and the Jews of Vienna with them, received equal rights. Ever since, the Vienna community became a center of culture, education and Zionism. Jewish journalists, writers (including Herzl), playwrights, poets, physicians, bankers and artists were among its members.
