A large roman magical lapis lazuli intaglio. Anubis.
2nd - 3rd century A.D.
26 x 34 x 4 mm
The god is standing on a crocodile, turned to the left and wearing a short dress. Above the winged solar disk. On either side of the god, birds and snakes. He holds a scorpion in each of his hands. On the reverse, inscription: NθM ONOC KONY This type of magical gem was used to protect against disease. Wear marks. Rare.
U.K., private collection 70's, in the same family since then.
