Postcard with mazal tov blessings handwritten and signed by Rabbi Aharon Yehuda Leib Steinman. He blesses the recipient for the birth of his daughter and ends saying “I also wish to tell you that we also gave birth to a daughter last Shabbos [probably his daughter Tova Tzipora Shapira, wife of the gaon Rabbi Dov Shapira), may Hashem will it and we will raise her for a chuppah and maasim tovim, may we only share good tidings. From your friend A. L. Steinman.” Sent to Rabbi Yosef Erlinger, student of the Gra’il in Switzerland. 14.5x9cm. Fair condition. Moisture damage affecting the text a little.
Rabbi Yosef Erlinger (1926-2020) was the son of Naftali of Switzerland. His father hosted the Gra’il Steinman when he was a young man together with Rabbi Moshe Soloveitchik when they had escaped the Shoah. He became close with his son Rabbi Yosef, and after his wedding the Gra’il rented him an apartment in Lugano. They remained in close contact until they passed away.
