Handwriting and signature of the Rishon LeZiyyon, Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Alisher, the Yisa Bracha

Card handwritten and signed by the Rishon LeZiyyon with a dedication in Rashi script: “Receipt Minchat Ani in silver, second section, I ordered it from (?) when she passed away, to divide it among Yaakov, merit of the author preserve us and his children.” Size 5x10cm. Defects and tears to the text (see photo).


Rabbi Yaakov Shaul Alisher (1817-1906) was the son of Rabbi Eliezer Yerucham and son-in-law of the Gaon Rabbi Meir Panizel. He was a gadol of Jerusalem sages, and from 1893 he served as the Rishon LeZiyyon, also holding the title of Chacham Bashi. He wrote many books on a variety of Judaic subjects, including Shut Yisa Bracha, Olat Ish, Yisa Ish, Ish Emunim, and more.
