Personal archive of the famous gaon Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Ferber, elder rabbi of London. The archive includes letters from all over the world and includes close to 300 letters and documents. Rich, interesting collection.


Part I - England: Over 100 letters sent to Rabbi Ferber by rabbis and well-known community leaders in England. The letters have not been properly examined, and they include much historic information.


Part II- Land of Israel: Approximately 100 documents and letters from rabbis and institutions in Jerusalem and the Land of Israel sent to Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Ferber between the years 1922-1958. Including rabbis: Rabbi Moshe Chevroni, Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer, Rabbi Yitzchak Arieli, Rabbi Hillel Vitkin Novhardok, Rabbi Yechiel Michel Tukachinsky, Rabbi Gershon Horowitz, Rabbi Yitzchak Ya'akov Wachtfogel, Rabbi Moshe Findling Haifah, Rabbi Avraham Yisrael Moshe Salman, Rabbi Shlomo Tavitzki, Rabbi Mordechai Mann, Rabbi Ben Tziyon Tzvik and Rabbi Yitzchak Shlomo Blau. There are also letters from dozens of institutions in Jerusalem that shed more light on their activities, from the period of the Holocaust and thereafter.


Part III - South Africa and more: Approximately 50 letters Rabbi Ferber received from rabbis of South Africa. Among the letters: A group of letters from Rabbi Yitzchak Kossovsky-Shachor (1877-1951) was one of the geonim of Lithuania, son-in-law of the gaon Rabbi David Shlomo Grodznisky, Av Beit Din of Eiva, Lithuania (his father was Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky of Vilna). After his father-in-law's passing, he was appointed to succeed him as rabbi of Eiva and other European towns. In 1934, he moved to South Africa, where he was appointed as rabbi of the United Communities of Johannesburg and the surrounding area. There are also letters from his son, Rabbi Yechiel Michel Kossovsky.

Some letters from Rabbi Binyamin Leib Deichovsky, head of the Machzike Hadath community in East London, and letters he received (among them several letters sent to Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinsky, and letters that deal with community leadership and even about selection of a rabbi for the  London communities). Letters from rabbis: Rabbi Aharon Milevsky of Uruguay - author of Minchat Aharon, Rabbi Ben Tziyon Lichtman of Beirut, Rabbi Yehudah Eidel Bengis of Libau, Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Reichenberg in Johannesburg, Rabbi Avraham Chaim Lapin (Lopian), Rabbi Shmuel Abba Senig, Rabbi Yissachar Moshe Berish, Av Beit Din of Zduńska Wola.


Part IV - Tunisia: Approximately 30 letters from Tunisia. Rabbis of Tunis, Djerba and more: Rabbi Sasi HaKohen, Rabbi Moshe Chadad, Rabbi Moshe HaKohen of Djerba, Rabbi Chamais HaKohen and others, as well as from various institutions in Tunisia.

The collection includes some 300 letters divided into seven different files. Their contents have not been properly examined and there may be discoveries.
