Autographs of Hawthorn are rare and desirable in any form after his tragic death at the early age of 29 in a road accident. Very small traces of former affixing to the edges. G Hawthorn announced his retirement shortly after winning the Formula One World Championship, having been profoundly affected by the death at the very early age of 26 of his teammate and friend Peter Collins (1931-1958), two months earlier in the 1958 German Grand Prix. Only three months later Hawthorn died in a road accident.
