CROOKES WILLIAM: (1832-1919) English Chemist & Physicist, a pioneer of vacuum tubes and inventor of the Crookes tube. Crookes responds to his correspondent's enquiry and writes 'I am not able to tell you the exact days on which the Physical and Chemical Societies meet after the vacation, but they will be quite early in November.
