African Tribal Art: Lega People, Zaire: Bwami Lukungu Mask, early 20th Century. Carved wood & pigment. The Bwami Society members create masks which represent ancestor and animal spirits. The austere stylization and colorization of this mask places it among the most elegant African tribal artworks.
