Lot of 2 books of the Tanya: Lebanon, and the 75th edition, the first printed in Fayid during the Yom Kippur War—Egypt 1973.

Two copies of the foundational Chabad work, the Likkutei Amarim Tanya by Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liady, author of the Tanya and the Shulchan Aruch HaRav.

1. Printed at the IDF Fayid base in Egypt, 1973. 75th edition. [2], 222 leaves. 11cm. Light defects, first title page is partially detached. Overall good condition.

2. Printed in Hatzaviya, Lebanon 1982. [2], 234 leaves. Tanya printing #177. Three title pages, 12.5m. Bookmarks, overall good condition.

The 75th edition of the Tanya was printed on a mobile printing press during the Yom Kippur War at the order of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson: “to show that ‘lo b’kochi v’otzem yadi’ was Africa conquered, or Egypt as it is called, but rather ‘b’ruchi amar hashem tzva’ot’”. The printing was afforded through the effort of General Rabbi Zvi Lipsker, a Chabad chassid, and required the special permission of Ariel Sharon, the Division Commander, and sent shockwaves through the newspapers of the time, regarding the devotion of the Chabad followers to their rabbis. The printing took place around the days of Hanukkah. About a month later the Rebbe surprisingly ordered another printing, and the 78th edition was produced around the same area. The edition seen in auctions until now was the 78th edition, since although this edition was published first it was in an abbreviated format and was less common. There are slight changes in the title page between the two editions. This edition was given out to soldiers in the field, and the copy before us has the stamp “Hashem Yishmor Tzeitcha u’Bo’acha, a gift to a soldier from the youth Agudas Chabad, Kfar Chabad.”
