Letter from the secretary of the Rayatz with exciting content from the exile of the Rebbe—Riga, Latvia, around 1930.

Typewritten letter on official letterhead of the “secretary … of Lubavitch, Rabbi Yehezkel Feigen, Riga, Latvia.” No date noted, based on the place and details it appears to be just before 1930,

addressed to “our honored friend Rabbi Yosef Shai Shmatkin”, in which the secretary gives good news: “regarding his brother and family baruch hashem all are alive and remain whole despite all of the suffering they have experienced and continue to experience, they were all in great danger, but baruch hashem … regarding the Admor shlita it cannot be written what happened to him and to us over the last month, he was in great danger but baruch hashem they were all saved…everything was to be burned but baruch hashem he decided to leave the country and come here”. Later he requests the recipient’s help: “All of our friends and Temimim should pay attention to the circumstances of the Rebbe since because of the current situation, for more than five months there has been no income but rather large expenditures…”. The writer expands on the Rebbe’s circumstances and the money they needed to gather, and he ends the letter with: “his friend he blesses”, plus his handwritten signature. Size: 21x22.5cm. Folding creases, overall good condition.
