EMDEN, R. YAAKOV. LECHEM SHAMAYIM. FIRST EDITION WANDSBECK 1728.

Commentary on the Mishnah; Seder Zeraim and
Moed as well as the Hilchos Bais Ha-b’chira of the
Rambam by R. Yaakov Emden-the Ya’avetz. With
corrections by the author.
R. Yaakov Emden commonly known as the
Ya’avetz (1697-1776) was a leading German Rav
and Talmudist who championed Orthodox Judaism
in the face of the influence of the Sabbatean
movement. Acclaimed for his extensive knowledge,
his works are extremely highly regarded. Thirtyone
of his works were published during his lifetime
and ten posthumously, whilst others remain in
manuscript. A son of the Chacham Tzvi, and a
descendant of Elijah Ba’al Shem of Chelm, he lived
most of his life in Altona where he earned a living
by printing seforim.
On the first page there is a printed diagram of the
Mizbeach.
