LETTER TO RABBI MORDECHAI DOV, REBBE OF HORNASTEIPEL, THANKING HIM FOR SUBSTANTIAL DONATIONS SENT TO THE VOLIN KOLLEL IN THE HOLY LAND. YERUSHALAYIM 1896. Illustrated letter from the officers of Kollel Volin, sent in 1896 to the famous Rebbe of Hornasteipel, Rabbi Mordechai Dov Twersky, thanking him for the large sums sent to ease the hunger of the poor in the Holy Land. Rabbi Mordechai Dov of Hornasteipel inherited the title of Nassi of the Volin Kollel from his grandfather Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Twersky of Cherkassy, and was active in raising funds for the poor in the Holy Land. Rabbi Mordechai Dov Twersky (1840-1903), son of Rabbi Meshulam Zusia Auerbach of Tolmich and grandson of Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Twersky of Cherkassy, in whose home he was brought up after the passing of his mother at a young age. Son-in-law of Rabbi Chaim Halberstam, the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. Rebbe of Hornasteipel from 1863. Prominent chassidic leader, rabbinical scholar and author.
