Lengthy letter from the gaon Rabbi Yechiel Michel Wolfson of Yanishok, author of Sefat HaYam, that was sent to the gaon Rabbi Nafatali Tzvi Yehudah Berlin - the Netzi"v of Volozhin. Yanishok, 1891.
Lengthy letter, signed twice, about the acceptance of a student to the yeshivah and other matters. Some of the letter is Torah thoughts, with regards to Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk.
Rabbi Yechiel Michel Wolfson [1848-1900] was a leader of the 'dor de'ah' and one of the most prominent among Torah royalty in Lithuania. He was born in Slutzk. He was a primary disciple of Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, author of Beit HaLevi, who even gave him an enthusiastic approbation for his book. When he was only 24 years old, he was appointed rabbi of Seltz, and then of Poritch, and in 1891, he was called to serve in the grand rabbinate of Yanishok until his passing. His books and responsa earned him senior status among rabbinic leaders and are considered among the best books produced by Lithuanian Jewry at its height. He authored the book Sefat HaYam in three parts, which received enthusiastic approbations from the Malbi"m and other rabbinic leaders. The second part is called Zecher L'Shevi'it which opposed 'Heter Mechirah' during shemittah. Aside from his book Sefat HaYam, his Torah thoughts are cited in several books by rabbinic leaders of Lithuania. Material about him included.
