Roman Imperial coinage > Julia Domna, mother of Caracalla. Augusta, 193-217 AD: AE Dupondius As (27.5 x 25.5mm, 11.25g), struck 211-217 AD; diademed and draped bust facing right & legend IVLIA PIA | FELIX AVG / Vesta seated facing left, holding simpulum almost vertically and sceptre & legend VESTA + letters SC in exergue. References: RIC IV 606 (Caracalla), BMCRE 231 (Caracalla), Cohen 229, Sear 7136; choice EF, well centered & struck with excellent detail; glossy darkish green-brown patina with minor touches of roughness; rare type; medallic alignment.
