LEONIDAS POLK
(1806-1864) Confederate lieutenant general who was a Bishop of Louisiana before the war, led with distinction at Belmont and Shiloh and was killed by cannon fire at Kennesaw Mountain. Scarce war-date signed forwarding endorsement 'L. Polk' as Lieutenant General, a 3.5 x 2 in. piece cut from a document. Slight smudge to signature, else fine.
