JOHN O'HARA
(1905-1970) American writer who earned his early literary reputation for short stories and became a best-selling novelist before the age of 30 with 'Appointment in Samarra' and 'Butterfield 8.' T.L.S., 1p. 4to., New York, Dec. 22, 1954, accepting an invitation to a lecture. In part: '...You were in a very tough spot with Anthony West, not being able to call him a bastard. Very frustrating. I seem to be permanently ensconced on the wagon and consequently won't be able to blame booze for my forensic indiscretions this time. But I'll think of some things to say. Tentatively you may bill the lecture as 'How Well Does Whit Griswold Know Zsa-Zsa Gabor?' a thought-provoking title....'Fine condition. Included is a retained carbon copy of a letter to O'Hara. Anthony West (1914–1987) was an English author and literary critic.
