TENNESSEE WILLIAMS
(1911 - 1983) Given name Thomas Lanier Williams III, he was an American playwright, author of the plays: 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof', 'A Streetcar Named Desire', 'The Glass Menagerie', and his book 'Moise and the World of Reason.' T.L.S. 'Tennessee' with holograph postscript, 1p., 4to., [n.p.], postmarked March 22, 1982 to Waring Jones responding to his opinions on some of Tennessee's recent plays.. In part: '...Duncan Weldon and his partner also admired it a great deal but were under the impression that there would have to be a star in it, such as Vanessa Redgrave or Maggie Smith. I don’t share this opinion, and they have held on to it without apparent action for about six months. I think it would do better in England, lately my work seems to fare better abroad. I see no reason why players such as Janet Suzmann or Glenda Jackson would not be big enough names if that’s what one must go by. Personally I think a fine production is what you want under a strong director...'. Very good.
