Torah Novellae on Masseches Berachos, Handwritten by Rav Shlomo Ganzfried, Av Beis Din of אונגוואר, Author of the "Kitzur Shulchan Aruch".

Torah Novellae on Masseches Berachos in Rav Shlomo Ganzfried's Very Handwriting! Av Beis Din of אונגוואר and Author of the "Kitzur Shulchan Aruch".

"The Wondrous and Incredible Gaon, the Tzaddik on a high level" (Loosely translated from the words of the Chasam Sofer in an answer in Chapter 137 of the Yoreh Deyah section).

Rav Shlomo Ganzfried was born in אונגוואר in year 5564. When still a child he was orphaned from his father and was raised in the home of the Av Beis Din, the Gaon Rav Tzvi Hirsh Heller, author of "Tiv Gittin". In 5604 he was accepted as the Av Beis Din of ברעזוויץ and from 5610 he was a Dayan in אונגוואר. Afterwards he became the Rosh Av Beis Din until his passing on the 26th of Tammuz 5646.

He was known to all Jewry worldwide through his monumental Sefer "Kitzur Shulchan Aruch- a Sefer which has earned its place in every Jewish household. It is probably the most commonly printed Halacha Sefer.

We can get a glimpse of his greatness through his grandson's introduction to the Sefer "Shem Shlomo", of which we have quoted a small section: "I still hear his pure Prayer, he would utter every word by itself, as one who counts coins...I still am astounded at his judgments of Bnei Yisrael, how he would give his decided judgment in a few words, and give his opinion on every important matter regarding Fear of Heaven, Torah and the Jewish World; his great humbleness even towards a small child, despite his great stature and wisdom, wider than the sea and extreme concentration in Torah learning, without stop. He limited his speech in material matters to an astonishing degree. Those coming from afar to see him, assumed they would find "guards standing at the walls of his abode and soldiers surrounding him", but they were surprised to find a weak body, thin and of short height. His wisdom lit up his face and those standing before him realized that he was an angel on earth."
