The central party of the old town is designated here: “Swan Street, or Jew Street.” Appeared in The Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Chronicle, September 1766, Vol. 36, p. 425. Shows the extent of the fi re of May 14th, 1766. Published facing an appeal “on behalf of the unfortunate inhabitants of Bridge Town.” (Unshaded area was was destroyed by fire.) . Jews were among the earliest European settlers on the Caribbean island of Barbados, located in the Lesser Antilles. Congregation Nidchei Israel was established in 1654 however the building was destroyed in “The Great Barbados Hurricane” of 1831.
