The Mexican Inquisition was an extension of the Spanish Inquisition to New Spain and despite late reforms, remained in force well into the early 19th century. The present proclamation, issued by Manuel de Flores, Mexico’s last Inquisitor, instructs all Spanish subjects residing in Mexico to voluntarily confess and renounce any heretical opinions.
