18th Century Russian Icon of Saint Nicholas
On wood panel. Saint Nicholas is the common name for Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra (in modern-day Turkey), a Lycian saint who had a reputation for secret gift-giving, now commonly identified with Santa Claus, a Bishop from Turkey who became the patron saint of Moscow and Santa Claus to the world.
