Bet Yosef Even Ha’ezer. First Printing. Savyonita 1553.

The First 'Tur' with the Beit Yosef Translation.

Rabbi Yaakov ben Asher, Rabbi Yosef ben Efraim Karo explanations.
Savyonita 1553.
232 Pages. Size: 32cm.
Computerized Jewish Book Otzar: Item no. 52465.
Extremely good condition. Think paper. Combined antique and new beautiful binding. Last page is slightly restored. Cover page has owners’ signature.
The book was printed during the lifetime of Rabbi Yosef Karo zt”l. His writings ‘The Bet Yosef’, are the cornerstone Halachic rulings accepted by Chachamim throughout the generations. This earned the ‘Bet Yosef’ the title ‘Maran’ both in Halachic book of his generations and afterwards.
This is the first edition of the ‘Even HaEzer’ composition. Rabbi Karo began printing it in 1550. In 1561 he printed the second part in Venice as well. Interestingly this copy has 62 lines per page. This differs to the copy listed by Yudlov in ‘Ginzei Yisrael, ’ Item no. 732. This copy is heavily censored, with many sections erased. Other parts are marked as censored but not removed. The copy has many annotations in Italian dating back to the period of its printing. Also includes many corrections on the text and its commentary. It is most likely that these corrections to the text itself were made by someone who had the manuscript.
