Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Dessler was the son-in-law of the grandson of Rabbi Simcha Zissel – the Alter of Kelm. He was a foremost thinker and philosopher in the last century. He earned his livelihood from trade and served as an educator in Beit HaTalmud in Kelm. Rabbi Dessler declined the offer to serve as Rabbi of Vilna. He taught in Gateshead, England. Following his immigration to Israel, Rabbi Dessler became the Mashgiach in the famed Yeshivat Ponovezh, Bnei Brak. His pupils, Rabbi Eliyahu Carmel and Rabbi Alter Halpern published his magnum opus, ‘Michtav MiEliyahu’ which became an indispensable book for Yeshiva students. Died 1954.
