The page adjacent to the binding contains a lengthy document, handwritten in clear writing detailing Rabbi Chaim Volozhin’s testimony:
“I heard of a most amazing event from R’ Meir HaKohen of Volozhin…that when the Chassid travelled to the Holy Land, he journeyed via Amstersdam. On the way to Amsterdam, he was hosted in one of the homes in a village of a wealthy prominent man…The Chassid deemed this rich man as reliable to stay at… and rest there from his travels for a few weeks.”
Professor Aryeh Morgenstern wrote in his book “The Gaon of Vilna” printed in Jerusalem, in 2018, page 44-6. “…Twenty years ago, at the start of 1991, the bibliographer Yeshayahu Winograd publicized an unknown historical document. According to this document, the Gra stayed in Amsterdam for three weeks on his journey to Eretz Yisrael. This document refers to a conversation between the Gra and his wealthy Jewish host…”
Professor Aryeh Morgenstern discovered additional proofs of the Gra’s stay in Amsterdam, a previously unknown historic fact. Yeshayahu first published this fact based on this document.
