Classic Book. The Book ‘Mitzvot Gadol’, Authored by Rabbi Moshe MiKotzi.
Exceptional and Striking Copy.
Venice 1547. Daniel Bombergi Printers.
318 Pages. Size 32cm.
Rabbi Moshe MiKotzi, is one of the Ba’alei Tosafot, and the son of Rabbi Yaakov of the Ba’alei Tosafot. He was one of the great Rishonim, an illustrious Halachic authority of his time.
Rabbi Moshe composed his Halachic work in the 13th century.
Rabbi Moshe was a cornerstone for future Halachic authorities. The book is divided into two parts. The positive commandments and the negative commandments. We glean from the introduction to his book, that Rabbi Moshe wrote it following a dream he had, in which he was instructed to create a Sefer Torah in two parts.
Rabbi Moshe based his rulings on that of the greatest Halachic authorities,
Maimonides. Rabbi Moshe quotes Maimonides, although not by name. Rabbi Yitzchak MiKorovil based his book ‘Sefer Mitzvot Katan – the small Book of Commandmants’ on this book.
The first edition, was printed at the outset of printing in Rome, 1470.
Printed on exceptionally thick paper. Impressive copy, with original leather-covered, wood binding. Embossed with the symbol of a European library.
Owners’ signature on cover page.
The first four pages are slightly worm-eaten. Minor repairs for tears
on the last few pages. Does not detract from the book’s splendor.
