ANASTAS MIKOYAN AND VYACHESLAV MALYSHEV
ANASTAS MIKOYAN AND VYACHESLAV MALYSHEV
Interesting document related to the Lend-Lease program under which the United States supplied material to the Allies to defeat Germany. VYACHESLAV MALYSHEV (1902 - 1957) Soviet statesman who served as the People's Commissar of Heavy Machine Building and Vice-Chairman of Council of People's Commissars during WWII. From 1941 he supervised the Soviet tank industry. ANASTAS MIKOYAN (1895 - 1978) an Armenian Communist revolutionary, Old Bolshevik, and Soviet statesman during the mandates of Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, and Brezhnev. Typed letter signed, dated March 20, 1942. In part: '...you allowed ordering spare parts from the USA for the imported machines for the sum of 15 000 dollars ... at the order placement, it became apparent that the mentioned sum only partially covers our request ... Taking into consideration the size of the American machine fleet at the factories...and their heavy load in the program on one side and the uniqueness of a part of them on the other, I am asking for your directive to increase the sum...up to 75 thousand dollars.' Signed by Malyshev in purple ink at the conclusion. The request is signed and inscribed diagonally by Anastas Mikoyan in blue pencil with 'Agreed.' Staple holes on the left side.
