GERMAN ANTISEMITIC POSTCARD
Early German/Austrian antisemitic postcard, 3.5 x 5.5 in., from the 1920s, bearing the song 'Wenn alle Menschen Juden waeren' ('If All People Were Jews') a 'folk song for reflection' by Max Bewer (1861 - 1921) a fanatically antisemitic German writer who called for the pogrom against the Jews. The song reads in part: '...what would become of the world? No corn would grow...the Jew can barter but cannot invent...the jew always seeks help for himself, but he will not help others...' The song was first distributed during the Weimar Republic. The reverse shows a cancelation stamp from Salzburg 10.VI.20, and a red advertising stamp from 'Der Hammer'. The card was published by Hammer-Verlag, Vienna. The Hammer Verlag was founded by Theodor Fritsch (1852 - 1933), in 1912 Fritsch founded the Reichshammerbund (Reich's Hammer League) as an antisemitic collective movement. He was an intellectual pioneer of National Socialism.
