A rare photograph of Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spector. Photographed, apparently, in Vilnius (Vilna) in 1899.
As known, from the photograph before us Dr. Yosef Hazanovich created a larger format print of Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spector, in order to include it in the National Library, which he was founded of, at the end of the 19th century.
The Gaon HaTzaddik Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spector [1817-1896] the chief rabbi of Kaunas, and rabbi of all the Diaspora. Disciple of Rabbi Yehoshua Leib Diskin and Rabbi Eliyahu Shik of Lida. Authorized to the rabbinate by Rabbi Binyamin Diskin and Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Haver of Tiktin. One of the greatest poskim of his generation, and the great leader of world Jewry in the 19th century.
Size: 10x7 cm. Tear marks on the back of the photo. Few stains. Good condition.
