AN ANTIQUE JAPANESE TRIPTYCH OF INK PAINTINGS

An antique Japanese ink paintings on rice paper after a painting by Katsukawa Shunsho, 1726-1792, from the series, Snow Moon and Flowers, metonym for beautiful sceneries in the nature. It is a Japanese expression and theme in art and design originating from a poem by Tang dynasty poet Bai Juyi. It become popular in the late Edo period. The central painting has the inscription in Japanese, lower left. Framed. Gold stamps, Rew Gallery, on the reverse of two artworks.
