The engraving reproduces the altarpiece made by Lorenzo Sabbatini and Denys Calvaert for the church of San Giacomo Maggiore in Bologna. It shows the Holy Family with John the Baptist as a child next to it and the archangel Michael defeating a devil. (see Diane DeGrazia, Le Stampe dei Carracci, Bologna 1984 p. 225, f. 322).
