First / Limited Ed. MILITARY LAW & PRECEDENTS William Winthrop [Ex Libris Justice Robert D. Glass]
First / Limited Edition of the historic MILITARY LAW & PRECEDENTS by William Winthrop - with Important Provenance | A Numbered Limited Edition - Published: Birmingham, Alabama: Gryphon Editions / Legal Classics Library Series, 1988 | Fully bound in fine calf leather with gold gilt decorations and lettering to all covers and raised banded spine; marbled end pages; all page edges gold gilt; silk ribbon.
Provenance: From the library /estate of the Honorable Justice Robert D. Glass, the first African American justice of the Connecticut Supreme Court. He was the lead plaintiff to initiate the landmark civil rights case of McKissick v. Carmichael [Represented by Thurgood Marshall], which resulted in the desegregation of the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1951. The Honorable Robert D. Glass Courthouse in Waterbury was named in his honor on May 19, 2008. See See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_D._Glass.
Colonel William Winthrop singularly was the most influential person in developing the military law of the United States. A half century ago, the Supreme Court tendered to Winthrop the title, "The Blackstone of Military Law, " meaning simply that his influence outshone all others. He has been cited over 20 times by the highest court and well over a 1,000 times by other federal courts, state courts, and legal texts. In this, he surpasses most other legal scholars.
