Pnei Yehoshua. Set of Four Volumes. First Edition

Set of Chiddushei Pnei Yehoshua al HaShas by the gaon Rabbi Ya'akov Yehoshua Falk, rabbi of Lvov, Berlin and Frankfurt, known by the name of this book, as the "author of Pnei Yehoshua." Part I is lacking.

Four volumes. Set printed over 40 years. Three volumes from the first edition, and one volume from the second edition, reprinted only a few years after the first edition.

Among the fundamental books for comprehension of gemara and its basic commentaries, enthusiastically received all over the Jewish world.

The magnitude of the Pnei Yehoshua's greatness is evident in the Chassidic story that when the Ba'al Shem Tov was notified from Heaven that he was required to serve a true Torah scholar for the sake of his soul - despite the fact that the Pnei Yehoshua was a mitnaged.

Part I: Tractate Berachot and part of Seder Moed. Frankfurt am Main [c. 1760]. Printed just a few years after the first edition, with revisions. The title page is similar to the special rare title page printed on the first edition, mentioning the author's desire to ascend to the Land of Israel.
