Dec 8, 2021
3B, 1st Lyusinovsky Lane, Moscow (Sherwood Tenement Building), Russia

[Catalogue of the collection] Italian sculpture XVII-XVIII centuries / Androsov S.O.
St. Petersburg: Hermitage Publishing House, 2014.
344 p., 22.5 x 27.5 cm.

In the illustrated publisher's binding. Excellent preservation.

The Hermitage collection of Italian sculpture XVII-XVIII centuries has more than 300 items and can be regarded as a very significant collection of Baroque plastic. The present catalogue includes all the works of that period that are on display in the museum's exhibitions and holdings. The works of both celebrated masters - Bernini, Algardi, Rusconi, Bracci, Canova - and lesser-known sculptors are analyzed in detail. The structure of the catalogue is based on a geographic-chronological principle: works are grouped in sections corresponding to the activities of the leading Italian schools - Rome, Florence and Tuscany, Venice and Northern Italy, etc., taking into account the chronology of stylistic changes - the transition from baroque to neoclassicism in the second half of the 18th century. The introductory article preceding the catalogue is devoted to the history of the formation and completion of the collection under consideration. The catalogue is intended for art historians, museologists, artists, and collectors.
