1. One of the foundational works on the personal histories of gedolei Yisrael and bibliography: Shem HaGedolim, “all of the sections and the works influenced by the gaon haChassid Rabbi Haim Yosef David Azoulay (the Hida), printed now with a new method of organization, separated into two sections: A. Ma’arechet Gedolim, B. Ma’arechet Sefarim.” Separate cover for each section, edited by Yitzhak Isaac ben Yaakov. Vienna 1864. 14 pages, [1], 82, 81, [1] leaves. At the beginning is the Hida’s biography and listing of his books, “by Rabbi Karmuli [with many changes]”. Cloth binding, leather spine, various stains, overall good condition. The bindings have old pages in Arabic script. 2. Ohalei Shem, 2 sections, “with the histories and adrisa’ut of city rabbis from every country”. There is a brief preface before the title page and an additional title page in Russian and German. There is a separate title page for the second section. 46, [1], 560 pages. Old binding is detached, defective leather spine, last pages are detached, moth marks and stains. Overall fair condition. The blank first page has a note in block sofer script: “Yosef Meir Weingort, grandson of the Maharshal and the Shla and the Maharam of Padova and the Mahari Mintz and Maharam of Rotenburg son of another son of, until, Rabbi Yonah the Kikayon d’Yona until Rashi until David HaMelech, I found this respected book in Haifa belonging to Rabbi Avdimi d’man chafa.” The title page has a stamp in a European language with the name “Daniel Stornfold, Seret Bukovina”. The body of the work has notes and symbols and corrections, including crossing out titles and correcting details.
