Metivta - Foundational Booklet of the First Chassidic Yeshivah in the World

Yeshivah Gevohah 'Metivta' Warsaw; The Magnificent Yeshivah Gedolah 'Metivta', Founded by Agudat Shlomei Emunei Yisrael B'Varsha, " Warsaw, 1922.

This is the foundational booklet of Metivta - the first Chassidic yeshivah in the world, founded in Warsaw at the Imrei Emet's initiative, about a decade before its sister institution, Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin. The yeshivah was led by the Polish gaon Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzki, author of Heichal Chemdah, alongside Rabbi Menachem Ziemba and Rabbi Mendel Kasher.

The kuntress includes a lengthy introduction about the establishment of the yeshivah, letters from rabbinic leaders, Metivta's regulations and its study schedule. Letter from Admo"rs of: Gur, Radzyn, Sokolov, and from Lithuanian rashei yeshivah: Rabbi Shimon Shkop, Rabbi Y. M. Gordon, Rabbi Shabtai Yagel and more, alongside letters from the yeshivah's board members, Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzki, Rabbi Menachem Ziemba and others.

Until WWI, there were almost no yeshivahs active in Poland, in particular Chassidic yeshivahs. Scholars would study in a study hall format under the supervision of the city's rabbi or that of an Admo"r.  This type of yeshivah generally functioned in small cities, such as that of Rabbi Avraham Borenstein and his son Rabbi Shmuel Borenstein in Sochachov; Rabbi Ephraim Tzvi Einhorn's yeshivah in Omstov near Częstochowa, Rabbi Meir Yechiel Holstock's yeshivah in Ostrovsta and others. Metivta was the first Chassidic yeshivah in Poland in the format of today's yeshivahs. The yeshivah was founded in Warsaw in 1919, shortly after the conclusion of WWI, at the initiative of Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter, the Admo"r of Gur, and with the support and encouragement of Rabbi Yitzchak Zelig Morgenstern, the Admo"r of Sokolov, and Rabbi Mordechai Yosef Elazar Leiner, the Admo"r of Radzyn. The yeshivah was located in a building at 18 Schwintwirska Street in Warsaw, and hundreds of young men from across Poland studied there. The heads of the yeshivah were Rabbi Meir Dan Plotzki, Rabbi Menachem Ziemba, Rabbi Meir Varshbiak and Rabbi Menachem Mendel Kasher. The nasi of the yeshivah was Rabbi Shlomo Yoskovitz, son-in-law of Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Alter, the Admo"r of Gur.
