On november 4,1995, at the conclusion of a mass rally "No to Violence, Yes to Peace, " Yitzhak Rabin, Israel's prime Minister and Minister of Defense, was assassinated. Yitzhak Rabin was born on March 1, 1922 in Jerusalem. In 1940 he joined the Palmach; became commander of the Harel Brigade in 1948, and head of re Irrational Division of the Israel Defense Force General Command in 1950. In 1964 he was appointed Chif General Staff and led the IDF to victory in the Six-Day War. In 1968 he was appointed Israel Ambassador to the U.S. and in 1973 was elected Prime Minister.
