Signatures of two leading Hungarian rabbinic figures on one book.
The following ownership inscription appears on the fly-leaf: ‘Hakatan Simcha Bunem Guens of Eisenstadt’ (a brother of Rabbi Akiva Eiger), followed by another inscription by one of his students: ‘I too, his student Yosef HaCohen confirm that this book belongs to my master the gaon Rabbi Bunem Guens, Av Beth Din of Mattersdorf’.
The title page contains several signatures of Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Mannheimer, Av Beth Din Ungvar. ‘magein hu lechol hachosem bo hakatan Chaim Tzvi Hirsh’ and ‘hakatan Chaim Tzvi Hirsh’.
Rare to find two important rabbinical ownership inscriptions on one book.

Rabbi Simcha Bunem Guens – Eiger (1770-1829), younger brother and close Torah study companion of the great Rabbi Akiva Eiger. Rabbi Simcha Bunem was in frequent Torah correspondence with his brother and his comments and opinions are frequently mentioned in Rabbi Akiva Eiger’s Torah writings. Rabbi of Ragozen and Mattersdorf (as successor to the Chasam Sofer). A leading Torah authority, who is frequently mentioned by his great contemporaries.

Rabbi Chaim Tzvi Hirsh Mannheimer (1814-1886), recognised as a child prodigy, and studied under Rabbi Yaakov Koppel Charif and Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Low of Vrbove, before proceeding to become a close disciple of the Chassam Sofer. Rabbi of Schatmansdorf, Vrbove (1860) and Ungvar (1871), where he headed a large Yeshiva producing distinguished pupils. Author of Ein Habedolach.
