Rare: Maamar Hed Harim, on the hospital controversy. Jerusalem 1894

“A response to the letter on the Adat Ashkenazim in Jerusalem written by Ashkenazi sofrim and signed by them, published as Shim’u Harim Rivenu.” Only edition, Jerusalem 1894. From the booklet Emet Me’Aretz, published by the Meginei Aretz company, pages 13-50. Classified as rare in the National Library. Stains, light tears, overall good condition.

This booklet is one of a series of 6 printed at the end of the 19th century following the split of Rabbi Michal HaKohen and his son-in-law Rabbi Haim Michalin from the Ashkenazi public institutions including the Bikur Holim hospital, and their establishment of the Misgav Ladach hospital for the Sefardi community. Written as a response to the Shim’u Harim Rivenu in which Rabbi Michal and his supporter are accused of a variety of things. The founders of the New Yishuv claimed that the old hospital discriminated in treatment of patients on the basis of origin, which led them to build a new one.
