Gastone Limarilli (Nervesa della Battaglia 1927 - Caerano di San Marco 1998)
He studied in Pesaro with the maestro Arturo Melocchi, who had been sent by Mario Del Monaco, his first teacher and himself a student of Melocchi teacher. The debut was in 1955 at the "Teatro Nuovo" in Milan as Canio in Pagliacci, followed by the Vienna State Opera debut in 1958 and early onset at the Teatro alla Scala December 23, 1959 in Fedra by Ildebrando Pizzetti. He performed on the major Italian stages and in some prestigious international theaters, including Covent Garden in London, the Vienna State Opera and the Opera of Monte Carlo. Important it was also the frequent occurrence in summer arenas, such as the Arena di Verona, the Sferisterio of Macerata and the Baths of Caracalla, for whom the voice was well suited. The repertoire included about fifty titles, with a prevalence of those Verdi (including the first Greens) and Puccini, for which it is best known. He played well the contemporary opera repertoire, in addition to Pizzetti by composers such as Franco Alfano and Ennio Porrino. It was equipped with clear voice and stamped lyric tenor driven, with great ease and ringing, especially in the high register. After retiring from the scenes he devoted himself to teaching. Suffering from crippling disease, he committed suicide. photo Portrait of content autographed "At the Deputation of the Grand Theater [Brescia]", dated 1965.
