Extremely Rare Copy, Maybe the Only One in the World, of a Prayer Booklet of the Jews of England Immediately after the Release of Jerusalem by Allenby - 1917 - a Historical Item
"Todah Ve'Kol Zimrah in our synagogues since the British army has overpowered and Jerusalem the holy city was given to the members of our armies. On Sabbath of Hanukkah, Parashat Miketz in the year of Kol Mevaser".
3, [1] pp. 21.5cm.
This historical booklet is extremely rare. It is most likely that this is the only copy in the world that survived. It does not exist in public libraries in Israel. The Bibliography of the Hebrew Book has only seen a photocopy of its title page (maybe of the copy before us?); yet not a true copy with the prayers it contains.
The booklet was printed about a week after General Allenby announced the occupation of Jerusalem on December 9 1917, in honor of the celebration that was held in Britain for the historical event.
The title page itself indicates the tremendous excitement of the Jewish world in general and the Jews of England in particular due to the release of Jerusalem by General Allenby and the British Army after years of Ottoman oppression. The Jews of the Land of Israel and the Diaspora saw the British occupation of the city as its "release". This is expressly indicated by the unique perspective of the booklet before us: "our armies", say the Jews of Britain, are those who conquered the city!
Condition: Good-Fair. Folding marks. Pen inscriptions on the title page. wrinkles and slight tears in the margins. No binding.
