At the age of 23, Erté designed his first covers for Harper’s Bazar in 1915 and became a significant figure in the Art Deco fashion and publishing world.
His illustrations were intended as abstract notions of fashion and style, and not merely as dress design. His original and sophisticated designes appeared in over 240 magazine covers.
