Midrash Ruth HeChadash with glosses and elucidations by the Gr"a, first edition. Warsaw, 1865.
The book opens with a lengthy introduction of historic importance by Rabbi Avraham Simchah of Omtchislav, nephew of Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, primary disciple of Rabbi Eliyahu Chassid of Vilna. In his foreword, Rabbi Avraham Simchah relates that he heard from his uncle about the dyybuk that entered a man in Vilna. When this spiritual being saw the Gr"a, he began to shout, "Rebbe - are you the one about whom they shout from heaven, 'Beware Eliyah and his Torah'? If you decree upon me, just using words (i.e. without sacred Names) that I exit this man, I will be forced to leave." The Gr"a replied, however, that he is not interested in speaking to [the dyybuk] at all. Later on, there is another story, about a dyybuk in Novardok, also mentioning the Gr"a.
