"Saint Matthias"
Tempera and gold ground on panel. 69,5 x 51 cm.
This panel was mentioned in print for the first time by Post, as being by the Master of Palanquinos and located in the former Retana collection in Madrid.
In recent years, professor Marc Ballesté, noted in his thesis which is focussed on the paintings in the dioceses of Leon and Astorga, especially on those by the Master of Palanquinos and the Master of Astorga, that this painting is by a Castilian master, close to the Master of Palanquinos and certainly active in the same geographical area, therefore, Leon.
