A Selection of the Poems of Chaim Nachman Bialik, Alexandria 1944
36 pages. 21 cm.
Chaim Nachman Bialik's poems translated into French published by the HaChalutz HaTzair Federation, Alexandria. June 1944.
A booklet which was published in Egypt to mark 10 years since Bialik's death, as part of the attempt to spread the Zionist culture in the oriental countries and to make the Egyptian Jews aware that Bialik was the "National Poet". As the publisher writes in the foreword: "Bialik is not well-known among Egyptian Jews, either due to lack of knowledge of the language of his poems or for other reasons, despite his being accepted today as the national poet. If this modest booklet should help bring Bialik to the public - this alone will be our reward".
At the beginning of the booklet is a picture of Bialik and it contains a selection of his well-known poems such as: El HaTzippor, B'Shel HaTapuach, Hachniseini Tachat Knafecha and others. Foreword in Hebrew and French about Bialik and his poems. Poems in French with titles in Hebrew and French.
A rare booklet which is not found in the National Library.
Title-page cover with tears in the margins of the front and back covers, paper pasted instead of the spine.
Fine-moderate condition.
