Postcard written and signed by Shada"r Rabbi Yosef Orvatz
Postcard sent from Ferrara [Italy], written and signed by Shada"r Rabbi Yosef Orvatz, dated 1918.
The postcard was sent to his friend, Rabbi Dovid Matita. Written in a nice, legible Sephardic hand. Rabbi Orvatz mentiones "our friend...Shlomo HaLevi - I cannot sufficiently tell you the great kindness and good deeds that this Rabbi does for me. I was received in his house with great honor..."
Rabbi Yosef Orvatz was born in Morocca in 1861. He arrived in Jerusalem in his youth and was educated by the prominent Maghreb sages - Rabbi Dovid ben Shimon and others. He later became very wealthy, per the blessings he received, and became a confidante of the King of Italy who transferred a lot of money for the needy people of Jerusalem through him. This postcard was sent while he was in Italy, at the height of his wealth and greatness.
We've included information about him.
Very fine condition.
