HOOVER J. EDGAR: (1895-1972) Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from 1935-72. T.L.S., 'J. Edgar Hoover', one page, 4to, Washington, 28th April 1948, on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United States Department of Justice, Office of the Director, printed stationery, to Mr Palmer Hoyt, Editor and Publisher of the Denver Post, Denver Colorado. Hoover states in full' I had hoped that I would have the opportunity of a visit with you on the occasion of your recent visit to Washington, as Mr Nichols has informed me, in detail, regarding his discussion with you. Unfortunately, I was delayed returning to the city and learned that you had already left. I do hope that the next time you are in Washington I will have the privilege of saying hello´ Signed in bold blue ink. Accompanied by Mr. Palmer Hoyt´s reply to Hoover, one page, 4to, 'file' carbon copy, 1st May 1948, in which he thanks Hoover for his letter and states in part `I am sorry that you did not return to Washington until after I left. However I will give you a call. I am looking forward to having a talk with you´ Together with a Seasons Greetings card, printed in red, bearing a gold embossed seal of the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, with the heading 'J Edgar Hoover and Associates'.
