WHITE GEORGE S.: (1835-1912) British Field Marshal, Victoria Cross winner for his actions at Charasiah in Afghanistan, 6th October 1879. White commanded the garrison at the Siege of Ladysmith 1899-1900. A.L.S., George S. White, Fd. Marshal, one page, 8vo, Whitehall, Broughsbane, Co. Antrim, 2nd June 1903, to 'Sirs', presumably his bankers. White forwards a cheque (no longer present) for the sum of £6.3.2. 'in payment of June account against Lady White' and asks for it to be acknowledged at his address in Ireland. Heavy traces of former mounting to the verso, otherwise VG
