FOCH FERDINAND: (1851-1929) French General, Supreme Allied Commander during World War I. A very good and cleanly written A.L.S., `F.Foch´, three pages, 4to, n.p., 24th October 1922, on his personal printed stationery, to the Commandant of the Italian troops in France, in French. Foch personally invites his correspondent to an important war commemorative event, stating in part `Mon cher Général, Les anciens Combattants, Chefs et Soldats, d´accord avec le Gouvernement Français, poseront le 11 novembre prochain, à Rethondes, près de Compiegne, une pierre Commemorative de l´armistice qui y fut signé le 11 novembre 1918..´ (''My dear general, The former Combatants, Chiefs and Soldiers, in agreement with the French Government, will pose on November 11, at Rethondes, near Compiegne, a commemorative stone of the armistice which was signed there on November 11, 1918..'') Foch further states that he expects that nothing will prevent his correspondent to attend the event as a participant in a victory which they will celebrate. To the third page and beneath Foch´s signature, the French Marshal has affixed his personal printed visiting card, adding `With my best wishes and souvenir´. EX
